Acts 1:8
In Acts 1:8, Jesus proclaims to his apostles that they shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon them and they shall be witnesses unto him, both in Jerusalem, and in all of Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost parts of the earth. This verse fuels the passion and is the essence of SILC. SILC is a resource link for women seeking short term and long term mission opportunities in the local, national and worldwide community. Women of every denomination, color and culture are invited and encouraged to utilize our network of experienced and capable mission leaders in their already existing missions efforts. SILC utilizes partnerships and relationships with lady leaders of already existing missions efforts as a vehicle for engaging more women in missions. This unified effort expands our resources and opportunities, eliminates unnecessary labor and cost and promotes a diversity of experiences. With SILC, any woman or group of women can quickly and easily join a mission team of women who are making an impact…..winning souls for Jesus Christ….meeting needs….changing lives in their family and home, around their neighborhood, city, state, nation and the world!!!!!
Mission Statement: To inspire, inform, equip, connect and mobilize women in the universal body of Christ for short term and long term local, national and foreign missions.
Vision Statement: United and led by the Holy Spirit and inspired by Jesus Christ example, laywomen of every denomination, color, culture, race and age will work together in partnership to provide and maintain short term and long term missions efforts locally, nationally and in foreign countries.
SILC’s Definition of Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the Uttermost Parts:
JERUSALEM: Our home, family and extended family
SAMARIA: Community and City
Uttermost Parts: State and beyond
SILC’s Definition of Short Term and Long Term Missions:
All missions efforts are about witnessing for Jesus Christ (via our personal testimony), communicating the Good News of the Gospel Message and relieving pain and suffering. The difference primarily has to do with the duration of the missions effort.
Short Term: Short Term missions efforts have a short duration or is a one time effort. Often the focus is getting a particular job, service or ministry effort completed. (Example: Replacing a roof on a home in New Orleans, week long street ministry in Orlando, planting a garden in an African village).
Long Term: Long Term missions efforts usually are done on a permanent or on-going basis. Building on-going relationships with those being served is often an integral part of Long Term missions. (Example: A weekly women’s Bible study/prayer/support group in your home, neighborhood or community, serving at a homeless shelter, substance abuse treatment facility, nursing home, personal care home, transitional housing facility, serving bi-monthly meals to the homeless in the park).
